Muscle knots or “trigger points” are small patches of super-contracted muscle fibers that cause pain, aching, and stiffness. They are called trigger points because they can “trigger” pain to areas of the body, sometimes areas very far away from where the muscle knot is located. Many of us are aware that we get tight muscles or muscle “knots”, but people don’t always realize that these knots can be the source of many common pain complaints. These muscle knots can develop anywhere on the body, each muscle causing its own predictable pain pattern. Muscle knots can affect performance of the whole muscle making it feel like the muscle has become weak. Trigger points can even cause other muscles to develop trigger points.

Muscle knots are a major and often unsuspected factor in common pain problems such as low back pain, neck pain, sciatica, and shoulder/rotator cuff problems. The good news is most trigger points are treatable and they’re relatively easy to treat if you know where to look.

When you book a self-treatment session you will learn how to find the trigger points that could contributing to your pain and how to treat them yourself. You can often get even more relief from self-massage than you can get from a professional massage therapist. Professional help can be great — probably necessary in once in a while — but it can also be extremely cost-effective to learn to treat your trigger points yourself.
